Also arriving at the same time, in Shanghai, is actor, Lin Jian Dong (Takeshi Kaneshiro), the star in a new musical helmed by renowned director, Nie Wen (Jacky Chung). Lin’s co-star, Sun Na (Zhou Xun), is an old flame from a decade ago. Sun is in a relationship with Nie, who made her a star.

The musical they are both acting in is about a love triangle: an amnesiac woman forgets everything, even her lover, to be saved from the streets by a generous circus owner. The two fall in love. Later when she recovers her memory, she finds herself torn between her past and present. The musical features the actors Lin and Sun in leading roles, with director Nie (playing the role of the circus owner) as the third part of the triangle. Nie is unaware of his two stars’ previous relationship, and the analogy reflected in the musical. As Lin and Sun spend more time with each other on the set, memories of their past begin to overwhelm them…

A decade earlier, Lin, a film student at the Beijing Film Academy, met Sun, who was performing at a local bar. He was a thrifty student she a songstress down on her luck. The two lonely hearts found each other and fell in love until Sun’s ambition and desire for fame upset the relationship. Feeling held back, Sun left Lin for a man who would make her famous.

Now the hottest stars of their generation, the romance of their past is rekindled as the production of the musical progresses. With the trio in the throes of jealousy, hatred and passion, the muse steps in to stir the plot…
