In 1878 two young stage magicians clash in a darkened saloon during the course of a fraudulent seance. From this moment on, their lives become webs of deceit and exposure, secrets and revelations, as they feud to outwit and destroy one another. Their rivalry takes them both to the peak of their careers, but with terrible consequences.
"A real magician tries to invent something new that other magicians are going to scratch their heads over."
Yes, you'll be amaze with how magicians do their tricks. With methods where normal people won't think of. They are a crazy group of people going for money and fame! In this movie I mean. I don't wanna generalise the other magicians out there. And because of fame and money and to outwit and destroy one another, they destroy themselves. Poor chaps!
This movie is nice when it is building the story, revealing events that happened in the past. And you have to use your wisdom to unlock the mystery that is kept like a secret. A relatively nice and intriguing movie to catch. The story twists here and there.

Wrestling with the loss of his crew members, he throws himself into teaching, turning the program upside down with his unorthodox training methods.
While there, he encounters a young, cocky swim champ, Jake Fischer, who is driven to be the best. During training, Randall helps mold Jake's character, combining his raw talent with the heart and dedication required of a Rescue Swimmer.
Upon graduation, Jake follows Randall to Kodiak, Alaska, where they face the inherent dangers of the Bering Sea. In his initial solo rescue, Jake learns firsthand from Randall, the true meaning of heroism and sacrifice, echoing the Swimmer's motto... "So Others May Live!"
I'd give a rather good rating to this movie. It's nice! Absolutely. The best I've watched this year? Believe me. You'll feel the same as me after you've watched it! Very inspirational and somehow it'll just catch your attention when you're watching it.

One year soldier

This time of last year, I was just a recruit. And now, I'm a third sergeant! I'm promoting to sergeant as of today! One year had passed... Do I consider it as fast or slow? Considerably okay. 'Cos I can still remember what I did last year at this time. Dragging my stuff to Tekong with my parents sending me off... So sad lah! And I even remember I was reading I-Weekly with Sun Yanzi on the cover and listening to her latest album then, A Perfect Day in my Dad's car.
Comparing the life I was experiencing a year ago, things are of course much better now. If not, how can I survive and blogging now? I mean love will keep us alive but I don't get any love! LOL! That's a joke. Just to promote Eagles' song Love Will Keep Us Alive. A nice, soothing, sad song. I like ballads like this one!

Hmm... One year had passed... Which means that I have another year to go... Aiyoh... Faster lah... Time pass faster lah... LOL! Then I can go enjoy my civilian life! Go study, work part-time, go for work and travel, and of course more travel, and have my middle-length or long hair back, more music, more fashion, more gatherings with friends etc. I miss this kind of lifestyle! I mean this is the lifestyle that I want! Why should I restrict myself to this limited freedom now? Why? Just 'cos I fall into these 2 categories, a Singaporean and a guy? Why lah? Why can't girls go for National Service and be nurses too? Not fair! LOL! I'm procrastinatiing again! Okay! I shall stop this. And stop here. 'Cos tired of blogging. =P

Death Note 死亡筆記 (2006)

Release Date: 19th October 2006
Details: 130 mins, PG, Documentary/Thriller/Horror
Starring:
Tatsuya Fujiwara, Ken'ichi Matsuyama, Ken'ichi Matsuyama, Ikuji Nakamura, Asaka Seto
Directed by: Shusuke Kaneko
Local Distributor: Encore Films, Golden Village Pictures
Light Yagami is the top high school student of Japan who has, until recently, led a boring and uneventful life. All that quickly changes when he finds a mysterious notebook with the title "Death Note" on it, lying on the ground near his school. This innocent-looking object which should remain in the hands of God, may just be the catalyst that would change the fate of the world forever.
Although initially skeptical after realising that it is a tool of a Shingami (God of Death), Light eventually decides to use it to 'cleanse' the world of evil. With the power to kill anyone by writing the name on the page, he begins to hold the scales to judge criminals based in his discretion.
I personally find it okay only. Not exceptionally good or bad. Moderate. However, Benny seemed so interested with this movie. Is it that nice? Plain storyline I find it. Maybe 'cos I was about to doze off in a few parts of the show? LOL! Anyway...

Where can I find money?

I need more cash for my education, personal development, health and wellness. I gotta invest my money and prepare myself for retirement at the age of 50, maybe. So many things that are under my head but I just can't commit to any. Some day I'll just go crazy. For sure! Maybe I'm stressing myself too much. But I'm doing so for something. Arrgghh!
What are days like when you know you can't do something just 'cos you are restricted to do so. No freedom. Freedom of speech? Forget it! Forget about for the nation, for everyone's happiness! I can't even help myself, how to extend a helping hand?
Les Miserables. These days, I really don't know what I'm thinking. I'm seriously getting myself into deep shit for nothing one day.

The Story of Mooncake

The Mid-Autumn Festival celebrates the time when the moon is furthest from the earth and is said to be perfectly round. The moon symbolizes balance, harmony and family. This is a very happy festival as families and neighbours gather together for moon-watching parties whilst children carry brightly-coloured lanterns. Mooncakes filled with exotic fare and tea is always served.
There are many stories regarding the origin of the mooncake and the Mid-Autumn Festival. The most popular is related to the Yuan Dynasty.
Mooncake were used as a medium by the Ming revolutionaries in their espionage effort to secretly distribute letters in order to overthrow the Mongolian rulers of China in the Yuan dynasty. The idea is said to be conceived by Zhu Yuanzhang (朱元璋) and his advisor Liu Bowen (劉伯溫), who circulated a rumor that a deadly plague was spreading and the only way to prevent it was to eat the special mooncakes. This prompted the quick distribution of the mooncakes, which were used to hide a secret message coordinating the Han Chinese revolt on 15th day of the eigth lunar month.
Another method of hiding the message was printed in the surface of mooncakes as a simple puzzle or mozaic. In order to read the encrypted message, each of the 4 mooncakes packaged together must be cut into 4 parts each. The 16 pieces of mooncake, must then be piece together in such a fashion that the secret messages can be read. The pieces of mooncake are then eaten to destroy the message.
Before wishing everyone a Happy Mid-Autumn Festival, it's...

Aloha Changi Chalet

Just came back from Merlin's birthday at Aloha Changi Chalet. It was fun though there were just too many anonymous people whom I don't know. I was there since Friday after my shopping for some essential items. We had BBQ and it was the first time I start fire! Oh gosh! But to my surprise, it wasn't that difficult! And I learnt that we can actually burn the charcoal at a burner before we bring them to the pit to start the fire. In this way, it'll be easier and faster to start the fire. Anyway, get to know Merlin's mum better and some of her mum's friends. Haha!
And this is the first chalet that I get to sleep on a comfortable bed all alone and not squeezing together or on the floor that kind. Comfy and cosy! One bad thing about me sleeping is that I'm like totally unconcious about the things happening around me, which can be quite dangerous. Who knows there might be an earthquake? Haha! Or sudden attack from someone somewhere. That night was also my first time to gamble blackjack/21. I lost on the whole and Merlin's mum kept asking me to play. Haha! Then I had to use my wits to think of a very good answer to stop her from bugging me so I said, "Jian Hao Jiu Shou!" Haha! Then she was like woke up her idea. She's a nice auntie to talk to and be with.
And soon it's Satutrday! I slept from 3am to 10am. Woohoo! A nice, cool 7 hours of sleep at a chalet, which the Directive states but always doesn't follow. Haha! We had chalet-cooked breakfast by Merlin's mum and coffee. The food is very much acceptable compared to the previous chalets I went. One very good thing about this 'package' is that I don't have to pay a single cent. The only thing I paid for is Merlin's present, which is a must! And poor Merlin is the one paying all these without subsidise from her parents. It's so much like a family and friends get-together chalet then like her own birthday chalet. Though she get to invite who she wanna invite, her mum get the priviledge/honour too! Weird right! As I said, she's a happy-go-lucky person so she's okay with anything. For me, NO! It wouldn't be MY birthday then if that happen.
And the day was spent on watching some boring Channel U programmes and casual chats here and there with Rebecca, Darren, Rui Hua and auntie and erm... I think mahjong! Which I think I'm quite good at. At least much more better than the luck-only blackjack. I hate to play games that need luck! I don't have much of it. What I have is some wits I guess. Everyone can think I mean and I assume I think slightly farther and faster. That's all. Yes, by Miranda Priestly. Haha! And it goes on until all the guests arrived, with BBQ and buffet available and guests like the uncles and aunites from the relatives side, and a few cute babies and I mean CUTE and a dog etc... Followed by sessions and sessions of mahjong, cake-cutting and again a few more rounds of mahjong until I just feel like sleeping and I just did so with the rest playing and making noise... Haha!
I managed to dose off successfully and comfortably until like 3am I woke up, need to go to pee and I found no one in the room! All pitch dark! Like a haunted room! And hmm... I just carry on with my small business and was thinking of calling them to ask where were they but then I headed back to sleep. Know what, they went to see Ah Gua at Changi Village! I wasn't interested. Then around 6am Rui Hua woke me up to check if I wanna leave together with them since they are going to then. I was like not tired at all then and can just get up with a clear mind, remember to take my stuff from another room and then head home with them. And the chalet ended here... =)
